Mona Radio support

Your radio. Everywhere in Apple.

Mona Radio connects to your Icom IC-705 over your local network. Here is how to get connected, and what to try when something doesn’t work.

Mona Radio 1.0 works with:

  • Radio: Icom IC-705 (the only supported radio in this version)
  • iPhone and iPad (iOS / iPadOS 17 or later)
  • Mac (macOS 14 or later)
  • Apple TV Radio Wall (tvOS 17 or later), receive-only
  • Connection: the radio and your Apple device on the same local network

Mona Radio does not initiate radio transmission. It shows and plays what your radio receives, and changes receive-side settings such as frequency, mode, filter, AF gain and squelch.

Before you connect

  1. On the IC-705, open MENU › SET › WLAN Set, turn WLAN on, and join the same network as your Apple device.
  2. In WLAN Set › Remote Settings, turn Network Control on and set a Network User name and password. Mona Radio 1.0 needs each to be exactly 16 letters or digits.
  3. In WLAN Set › Connection Settings, note the radio’s IP address.

Connecting

Open Mona Radio, add a radio, and enter its address and the Network User name and password. Use Check to confirm the radio answers, then connect. When asked, allow Local Network access — Mona Radio needs it to reach your radio.

Troubleshooting

“No radio answered at this address”

The radio is off, asleep, on a different network, or its address has changed. Check the address on the radio, and make sure your Apple device is on the same network — not on cellular data, a VPN that captures local traffic, or a guest network that isolates devices.

“The radio rejected the user name or password”

Re-enter the radio’s Network User name and password. These are the radio’s own settings, not an account with Mona Apps, and each must be exactly 16 letters or digits.

“The radio is still releasing a previous session”

The IC-705 holds a session for a short time after a client disconnects abruptly, and it allows one network session at a time. Make sure no other app or computer is connected to the radio, wait a moment, and try again.

“Mona Radio connects to radios on your local network only”

Mona Radio 1.0 accepts private local-network addresses (for example 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) and local host names only. It cannot reach a radio over the internet.

I declined the Local Network prompt

Turn Local Network access back on for Mona Radio in your device’s Settings (on iPhone and iPad: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network; on Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network), then try again.

The connection drops or keeps reconnecting

Mona Radio reconnects on its own after short interruptions. If the link keeps dropping, move the radio closer to your Wi-Fi access point, check that the radio’s Wi-Fi signal is strong, and avoid networks that put devices to sleep aggressively. If it still won’t recover: disconnect in Mona Radio, quit the app, power the radio off and on, and connect again.

No audio, or the spectrum is not moving

Check your device volume and output route. Mona Radio plays receive audio while it is in the foreground on iPhone and iPad. If the status shows “Connected, Limited” or “Receive Audio Interrupted”, the radio link is up but part of the stream isn’t arriving; wait a moment, or disconnect and reconnect.

Firmware and network notes

Keep your IC-705 on current Icom firmware. Mona Radio talks to the radio’s built-in wireless LAN directly; a stable Wi-Fi network with no client isolation gives the best results.

Does Mona Radio support other radios?

Mona Radio 1.0 supports the Icom IC-705 only.
